Despre Paul Johnson

PAUL BEDE JOHNSON (nascut in 1928 la Manchester) este un bine-cunoscut ziarist si istoric englez. A studiat la Stonyhurst College, apoi la Magdalen College (Oxford). S-a a?rmat ca jurnalist in anii '50, la The New Statesman. In anii '70, a inceput sa aiba conceptii tot mai conservatoare; pe fundalul problemelor economiei britanice, s-a opus miscarii sindicale. Sustinator al lui Margaret Thatcher, a de venit unul dintre consilierii ei si i-a scris o serie de discursuri. Din 1981 pana in 2009, a detinut o rubrica in The Spectator. S-a preocupat de problemele si evenimentele care indicau, in opinia sa, declinul general, de la educatie la practicarea religiei si comportamentul social. A scris regulat in The Daily Telegraph si intr-o serie de publicatii americane (The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Commentary, The National Review). Johnson este un critic al modernitatii. Ii dezaproba pe cei care folosesc teoria evolutionista pentru a-si justi?ca ateismul sau pentru a-si promova experimentele biotehnologice. Catolic conservator, Johnson priveste teologia eliberarii ca pe o erezie si pledeaza pentru celibatul preotilor, desi considera ca exista motive intemeiate pentru hirotonirea femeilor. In anul 2006, Johnson a primit, din partea presedintelui George W. Bush, The Presidential Medal of Freedom.
